Trivia are facts that can be amusing although they are mostly knowledge that we can do without. Here, we have compiled some of them.

Venus has the longest day of any planet in our solar system. It completes one rotation every 243 Earth days.

NOTE: Venus completes one 360° rotation on its axis every 243 Earth days (formally called a sidereal day Glossary The sidereal day is the time it takes for the Earth to complete one rotation about its axis with respect to the ‘fixed’ stars. By fixed, we mean that we treat the ...). This rotation is longer than the time it takes Venus to orbit the Sun at 224.7 Earth days.

The crash of Shoemaker-Levy 9 comet into Jupiter in 1994 is the biggest extraterrestrial collision ever witnessed.

A full moon always rises at sunset and sets at sunrise.
The footprints made by astronauts on the moon will stay there for many centuries. There is no erosion on the moon to disturb the footprints.

NOTE: The moon has no weather so there is no erosion from wind, rain, rivers or the sea. There is also no geological activity to disturb the soil, like volcanoes or earthquakes. The effect of the solar wind on soil particles on the moon surface is far too slow to be significant. Meteorite strikes are the only likely sources to erase the footprints. Even a tiny fragment or speck of space rock can wipe out a single footprint.

The average density of Saturn is 0.687 g/cm3 which is less than that of water (1 g/cm or 1000kg/m3).

NOTE: This is because Saturn is made up largely of hydrogen and helium even with a (small) solid core of nickel, iron and rock (compounds of silicon and oxygen). Hydrogen and helium are mostly in liquid form. Liquid metallic hydrogen (1.15 g/cm3) surrounds the core followed by a mixture of liquid hydrogen (0.0708 g/cm3 or 70.8 kg/m3) and liquid helium (0.125 g/cm3). The outermost layer is gaseous. Saturn is the only planet in the Solar System that is less dense than water.

Scientists believe that diamond rains occur on Neptune and Uranus due to high levels of hydrocarbon and pressure.
Skylab, the first American space station, fell to the earth in thousands of pieces in 1979, mostly over the ocean near Australia.
Astronauts have already planted six American flags on the moon.
The universe is beige in color and a team of astronomers from Johns Hopkins University calls it cosmic latte.
