Organelles are subcellular components found in living cells which perform specific functions for the cell. Thus, each organelle contributes to the welfare of the cell. An organelle will usually perform more than one function, mostly involving chemical transformations known as biochemistry. These include lipid manufacture, transcribing RNA (ribonucleic acid) for protein synthesis, and managing waste products in the cell to avoid contamination to other components.
